On Friday, August 18th, 2023, Riverside House hosted a transformative 1-day hands-on leadership workshop with John Hopkins Professor Adriano Pianesi. The event was intended to ignite attendees’ potential to make a difference in their community or organization.
According to Community Relations Coordinator Carmen Bell, attendees enjoyed the workshop overall. It was very interactive and incorporated a lot of movement and speaking with others. Our Riverside House staff shared that they learned a lot at the workshop and that the event allowed them to view leadership and leading from a different lens or perspective. The workshop was very different from what the participants were accustomed to. It was not your typical “lecture-style” workshop.
Riverside House was able to impart to community service providers, and community partners such as the United States Attorney’s Office, and Florida International University the following:
Through small and large group interaction, Q&A, and facilitator-led groups, how to think outside the box, think outside themselves, their current job roles, and responsibilities, and consider the bigger picture of current global, community, or neighborhood issues or concerns that they would want to impact, and how to go about it. In addition, their perspective and mindset about leadership and leading were challenged, and their understanding of key terms such as “vision” and “mission” and how that shapes their understanding and view of what leadership and leading is, and what it looks like.
