A Powerful Presentation on Health Awareness and Second Chances
Riverside House recently welcomed YG Institute Founder, Mrs. Yradia Guanipa, alongside interns Nathalie Morlote and Nayeli Perez, for a meaningful and informative presentation focused on health awareness and prevention.
During their time with our residents, the team shared practical and life-saving information on recognizing signs of skin cancer, identifying choking emergencies, understanding the warning signs of strokes, and other essential health topics. The session created an opportunity for residents to gain knowledge that can have a real impact on their well-being and daily lives.
Beyond the educational component, Mrs. Guanipa also shared her personal testimony. She spoke openly about her experience with incarceration and her time at Riverside House, offering a perspective that deeply resonated with those in the room.
She reflected on the fear she carried as a returning citizen, the constant pressure of not wanting to make a mistake and risk going back, and the emotional toll her incarceration had on her family. Her honesty brought a sense of connection and understanding, reminding residents that they are not alone in what they carry or what they are working to overcome.
Moments like these create more than awareness, they create space for reflection, encouragement, and growth. By combining education with lived experience, the conversation became both practical and deeply personal.
At Riverside House, we are grateful for individuals like Mrs. Guanipa and her team, who choose to share their knowledge and their story in ways that truly make a difference.
