Riverside House Emergency Shelter Updates

At Riverside House, our Emergency Shelter continues to provide critical support for individuals experiencing homelessness across Miami-Dade County. Here are some of the latest updates and developments within the program:

Current Bed Availability

The shelter is currently housing 29 residents. One additional bed through the City of Miami Beach remains available and is expected to be filled soon, reflecting the ongoing need for safe and stable housing in our community.

New Community Partner: EZRI

The Empowerment Zone Reentry Initiative (EZRI) recently hosted an open house to introduce the wide range of services they offer. Their team includes licensed social workers, graduate students, and a pro-bono attorney who support individuals preparing for life after incarceration.

Through this partnership, residents can receive assistance with housing preparation, reinstating suspended driver’s licenses, and accessing essential items such as hygiene products and clothing.

Health & Wellness Event

On November 10, the 2540 Health Clinic provided free HIV and Hepatitis testing for shelter residents. Approximately 15 individuals participated in screenings and received support enrolling in ACA health insurance and Medicaid.

Each participant also received a small incentive, while the clinic’s social worker ensured they were connected to appropriate healthcare resources and follow-up services.

New Community Partner: A1 Credit

A1 Credit continues to expand opportunities for individuals navigating reentry by focusing on credit repair, financial literacy, and long-term stability. Their program also connects residents to skill-building opportunities and job placement support.

One powerful example is a former resident who, with their guidance, obtained a CDL license and secured stable employment in waste management, demonstrating the impact of consistent support and opportunity.

These updates reflect the ongoing work happening each day at Riverside House, meeting immediate needs while building pathways toward stability, health, and independence.
